First post so please be gentle.
I have searched the various forums and this seems like the logical place to start. I understand that FMS is a pascal/delphi program that is reliant on the Direct X version 8 apis. It has been discussed that it would be nice to have other versions of FMS for other platforms, including linux. To this end (and from what I can gather) some work has been done on some C# code running under Linux.
Can I make a request. There isn't a single, polished, r/c simulator for Mac Os X. The alternatives that do exist CRRCSIM and Slope Soarer appear to be primarily geared towards glider based modelling and don't attempt to leverage model and scenery information from any other simulators (leading to few aircraft and little community sharing). Furthermore, they work on the Mac by virtue of their 'nixness but don't attempt to leverage the Mac's graphic libraries.
Is there no chance of getting a quality r/c simulator on to the Mac?
If further development is done via C# there is some hope of getting this to work via Mono, but I suspect that the hardest part will be reducing the reliance on Direct X
If there is little, to no, chance of getting a Mac OS X port, where would one start? Would it be better to work with open source projects that exist or to go for a unique design?
