Dragonfly 22d radio and xp? - parllel adapter on a serial cord?

Hello everyone,
I really need some help. I am new to the r/c world and not too computer savy. I have an HP laptop with 2002 xp home installed. I do not have a serial port to plug in my radio. I went to Radio Shack and bought a parallel adapter and tried all of the steps that everyone posted in this forum with no joy. I have installed PPJoy and tried the steps that someone posted from HobbyJapan. I also tried to remove the crystal (tx/rx?) in the back of the radio. I guess my question is, will the parallel adapter work on my serial cable? The cable was supplied to me with my Dragonfly 22d kit from Hobby Japan. I think they call the Zen Hua transmitter. I forgot to mention, I was able to install the 2 drivers using Hobby Japans Install proceedures that someone posted, but when I try to map it and calibrate it, it does absolutely nothing. Would a serial cable to a USB adapter work?
Any advice would be greatly appriciated.

Did you put in batteries in your controller? In the FMS setting, chose Zen Hua protocol. Then, connect your controller and turn on the power. You should see that the program is reading signal from your controller.
I am not a computer hardware expert to comment the change from a serial to a parallel port and therefore cannot comment.
Did you set up the Joypop program correctly for your parallel port of your laptop?

Thankyou for the reply. I tried to set up the PPJoy for the parallel port but it didn't have anything for the Zen Hua protocol. I don't have a serial port and I think the Zen Hua only comes up when you are setting up the serial port. If you have seen it for the parallel port please let me know. Thanks again.
