Just out of curiosity.
Does everyone have this problem and no one else admits to it?
I know I can load and use the landscapes without problem.
But I don't know why it appears that several can't use it.
Swedish Mike had a bit of a problem till he changed the Aircraft, and Pilot positions in the .SCN file to whole numbers, then he says it worked fine for him, but even so I had no difficulty with the numbers as they were. He is using Alpha 8.2.
I first ran it on Alpha 7, then released it. I then upgraded to Alpha 8.1 and it worked fine for me, though several had problems. I then tried it on Alpha 8.2 on my brother's Laptop. It again ran without difficulty.
I'm using a Homebrew computer, 1.2 Ghz equivilent AMD XP 2200+, with 256 MB RAM, an Albatron KK400+ pro Motherboard, WD 40 GHD, and NVIDIA GeForce FX 5200 Video card. I'm also still using the Win98 platform, and my brother's Laptop WinXP.
Without feedback I can't know what is wrong. I'm sorry there are some having difficulty with it. I desperately wish I could help.
If there are too many having difficulty with it, there is no point in me making the scenery, and cluttering up the already messed up web, let alone your personal computers.
Wonder if that's how Roman feels sometimes. ???
Sigh ...... any feedback?

Hello Perry and Manly...

A few clearyfications:

- My problems started when I upgraded from FMS 7 to Alpha 8.1.
- The "fix" only works for me in A8.1 ???
- A8.2 does only run in default mode (default landscape) on my computer.

Since I'm quite happy with running the A8.1 version, I have not yet devoted any time to finding a fix that works for A8.2.

I'm running a 2Ghz system with 256Mb ram and a GF3 Ti200 card.

Perry,

I have downloaded and used your sceneries and models in v7 since you released them. They all work exceedingly well, and I consider your GOUSA scenery, both day and night, to be the best available for FMS - period! The models fly well, at least as good as anyone elses, and better than many others, and that sound file for the "Cat.." is just the "cat's meow".

To Mike And Manly:

Please try to sort out your problems and get Perry's files to work - somehow; you will not be disappointed.

My system, by the way is a tired, older, P111, 600 mHz, plain jane Dell, with 768mHz of ram and a GF Ti 200 board. I've stayed with v7 so far simply out of fear and common sense, but v8.2 is beckoning and I may try the newest version on a machine I'm gathering parts for, to be built this fall.

Best wishes and

Thermals,

Stew

FreeFlyer: I have got Perry's files to work - In A8.1. I agree the his landscapes are the best out there for FMS! MORE PLEASE :)

The only thing wrong with A8.1 is that you cant use the V7 *.par files with it wich excludes some of the nice planes out there, but since FMS 8 was released there has been some very nice FMS 8 planes too - Just look at the work of Pierre Gentil (to mention but one of the wizards out there)! :D

Regards
//Mike

FMS 8.2 has support for v7 planes. Are you having problems with 8.2?

I haven't upgraded to 8.2 as yet. I'm using 8.1. I've been reluctant to upgrade till the bugs have been worked out. For that matter I didn't want to upgrade to 8.1, but since some were having trouble with my landscapes I did it for testing purposes. It appears it's too unhandy to turn back even though I still have A7 installed because the joystick perameters are reconfigured.
I released the landscapes just as Alpha 8.1 was being released.

I've just upgraded to Alpha 2.8.2 ... I still have my old versions so I can go back to them.
This is what I discovered.
1. 8.2 will not allow as many object quads as 8.1.
2. None of my landscapes will function under 8.2 unless you eliminate quads.
3. If you return to 8.1 after trying 8.2, the landscapes function fine.
4. 8.2 will allow about 2/3 the amount of object quads as 8.1

I've tested this extensively, so I know these to be true.
I'm returning to 8.1

Thank you Perry!

I will also stick with 8.1 until the bugs in 8.2 are ironed out. Loosing detail objects in a landscape kind of defeats the purpose of it in my opinon. ;)

Cheers
