how much wind speed and gust velocity do u set?
I don't know physic much...
I want to set a realistic environment to learn (e.g. out door small wind)

Thanks

admire123,

For small park flyers I use between 1 and 2 meters per second for the wind with .1 to .3 gusts. I also use 280 degrees in the world.scn landscape as it corresponds pretty well to wind coming down the runway.

The FKStick8 model will fly barely at 6 m/s and take off vertically. It's a real challenge to fly.

Larger and more powerful models would need larger wind and gusts to notice them. Figure 5 to 15 m/s for those models.

If you fly at places with steady wind, then gusts should be zero but gusts are what makes the flying more realistic.

Hope that helps.

P.S. Google can help converting mph to m/s.
1 m/s = 2.237 mph.

Does anyone know if the gust velocity should be set at the gust speed of the wind or the wind speed should be subtracted from the gust speed?

I'm using a local weather bureau site that shows the current wind speed and gusts. I live in Melbourne.

ie. If the gust speed is 5 knots yet the wind speed is 2 knots should I set the gust speed at 5 knots

or

5 knots gust speed minus 2 knots wind speed = 3 knots.

I realise you need to convert 1 knot to 0.51444 m/s

It seems to work better subtracting yet that is possibly still too sensitive. Maybe it's just me!

It's currently the middle of winter over here. It hasn't been this windy for months yet I don't know if you know anything about Melbourne weather. We can literally have four seasons in one day. It can start in the morning with a mild warm sun which changes into thunderstorms and by lunchtime it's fine and 24C thats approx 75F. Then it will rain again and drop to 14C or 57F to clear up in the late afternoon and continue to drop in temperature to an overnight low of 4C or 39F. Yet there are still a few hours of flying time if you can work around the weather most weekends.
