Problem with graphic output

Postby TheBug » Wed Feb 18, 2004 11:32 pm

I am more or less unable to use FMS because I never see the model when initilizing the simulation. I sometimes saw it just a few moments before crash...

From the looks of it there may be some problem with the 3D rendering. No matter how much I fiddle with the view setting I never get a useful view of the model.

I am running W2K (latest updates) on a Athlon 2500+, 512MB RAM, Radeon 9600 Pro.

TheBug, I've actually had some of my own models disappear on me as you indicate and will reappear if I correct an error in the 3D Metasequoia model. I'm not exactly sure what causes it. Do all your models remain hidden? -- ggunners

Yes, unfortunately I seem not to be able to see any of the models. Which mnakes flying them a bit hard...

TheBug, I'm at a loss except I've read some folks having problems with the high end ATI card. Update to the latest drivers or backlevel to older more stable drivers might help. Also make sure you've got the latest DirectX. Can't think of anything obvious. -- ggunners

Updated the driver, no luck. Tried the program on an old PMMX 200MHz, same result. I never see the model. When the scree initializes I see an empty runway or a piece of landscape and I can not even make it zoom on or out.

TheBug,

Try running DXDIAG and see if anything obvious shows up. You might save the result to a file and provide a link for us to look at. Just another idea.

What are your graphic settings in FMS?

What is DXDIAG?

I have used FMS in window mode and full screen 1024x768, 16 or 32 bit, makes no difference, except that sometimes I do get some error message saying it was not able to switch to the prefered graphics mode, but that seems to not always have anything to do with the current mode...

OK, that is a definite answer at least. I will not change the configuration of my machine since I need it for work, so I will have to wait for a release that fixes this problem. Or is there a MacOS version of FMS? ;)

:)
TheBug,

I understand. Then I recommend you to use ver2.0 8.1 Alpha
and disable "True Alpha" in the 'Graphic-Option-Shadow' setting of FMS.
Probably you can play FMS with Radeon 9600Pro card.
Althogh a shadow color is not normal(black), the other functions are pretty good.
I got this solution from other comment thread.
I can use FMS 8.1alpha with 9700Pro by this way, however, I'm now using Radeon8500 to get black shadow.

I have an ATI 9600 XT and FMS 2.0 Alpha 8.2 will work until you try to make any kind of graphics changes. If you attempt to adjust anything it creates an "Invalid Floating Point Operation" and you have to uninstall FMS, restart the system, and install a fresh copy to get it to work again. Hopefully the next release will take care of this.

Another post says you need to turn True Alpha off in version 2.8.x until you get the latest ATI drivers from their web site. The newest ATI drivers fix the True Alpha problem.

I have the latest ATI drivers but still no luck. I don't even have to make changes now for it to stop working. I can install, leave all the settings default, and play it just fine. The minute I shut it down it stops working. The next time I go to open it I get a black screen and an "Invalid floating point operation." error window. If I re-install it, it works fine again. Driving me crazy :0

Check out the other thread

This sounds like it may be an issue with version 7 models running under version 8. Try running with only version 8 models after an uninstall/reinstall process.

Also, I know this is frustrating, but this is alpha code, bugs are normal and should be reported. Thanks!
