When is there going to be a linux version?

I noticed a few comments on open source. It seems a shame to have to duplicate effort to get this code/or similar code, in the linux/bsd community.

I hope the authors take this into account

I personally don't like being married to MS products.

Hi, I agree.
But I think the problem will be that FMS's graphics engine is based on DirectX. I'm not sure wheather this is easy to migrate to Linux...

Related to open source we only can hope that Roman and Michael will publish their code one day. At the moment it doesn't look good for that... ???

I am waiting for a Mac OSX version, because the only PC in the house is stuffing up real good. once we have a linux version (or OSX) it shouldn't be too hard, as the basic codes are very similar.

na, wie wärs mit nem emulator? da gibts schon ein paar nette. ich hätt auch lieber einen fms für linx, aber was nicht ist, ist nunmal nicht, und bevor mann immer neu bootet ist der emulator doch nicht schelcht oder?

Regarding the possibility of porting to Linux, I think the best place to start would be the SDL library which is a cross-platform multimedia (graphics/joysticks/audio) library which has been used by many companies in the past to port their Windows applications across (namely games).

Loki games used it convert things like Heros III to linux (the results are quite good).

I know for one that I would love a linux version.

nah. wine can`t wrap (it`s not an emulator at all...) every app.
there is transgamings cedega (wich was winex once) - especially for games. but even cedega can`t handle FMS. i`m a beta tester - the next upcomming versions of cedega won`t support FMs likewise.

the best solution would be a port to opengl / opengl2.
all parties would profit, if openglX would be weapon of choice.

actually it doensn`t matter which multi-os solution it is at all - as long Roman and Michael won`t open the sourcecode.
but by now there`s no plan to sell FMS one day... what`s the problem with opening the source then?
