Power Supply?? - Tx Batts.

I have just purchased a PIC serial interface cable from Dennis Koroluk to hook my Tx up to FMS (it's in the mail). My question is, do I need to use the Tx batts. to operate FMS, or is there another solution? I would hate to be flying and have to quit because my Tx batts are dead. Any ideas??

Depends what the Tx is. It's possible to hook up external power to most of them but some are easier than others.

The interface you will be receiving was not designed to supply power to the transmitter. The interface draws power from the serial port to operate as it only requires about 5ma. Serial ports were never intended to supply power as new usb ports are just transfer data. The trainer jack connector does have the jumper to power up the rf section of Futaba transmitters. Most JR transmitters power on when the jack is inserted into the plug. These do use the internal battery though.

You cannot really use the charge jack to supply power as it is cut out when the transmitter power switch is turned on. For a Futaba /Hitec you could supply external power (9.6v) to operate the transmitter on pin 5 and the shield of the trainer jack.

The easiest way to do it though is to use the internal transmitter battery with the tranmitter rf module or crystal removed followed by battery charging.
