Computor-speed

Postby jon » Sat Jul 19, 2003 5:06 pm

Hi out there.

Does the PC's speed infuence on the planes parameters?
Anyone who has upgraded their PC and found a difference in plane behaviour?
Does the planes fly faster with higher speeds.

The cause I'm asking this question is a comment on one of my planes; "It flies redicously" ???

I also downloaded some planes that filed absolutely crazy and was impossible to handle.
My thoughts was that, if these planes where made to fit an older slower PC, of course, the planes I have made will work in the same way on a faster computor than mine.

It would be nice to know, so maybe the parameters needs some adjustments on some PCs

some months ago I upgraded to a much faster graphics-card. I didnt notice any change in model-speed. Àlthough the fps were grown from about 40 up to 60... :)

Hi again.

Ok, but this was not what I meant.

I was thinking about the CPU speed.

The planes I made was made om my PC with a P III 677 MHZ prosessor. I womder what will happen on a PC with a CPU speed of i.e. 2,4 GHz.

The graphics card does only make a difference in the prestentation on the monitor.

No, no - because FMS uses graphics acceleration the speed does depend on the graphics card because most calculating work is done on the graphics card.

But I know what your asking for... I think FMs does not run faster (planes fly faster, react faster, etc) on a more powerfull CPU. :)

The one thing that I have found is that 'Frame Rate' has a noticeable impact. I suspect that parameter - which you can't set directly - does depend on your hardware capability, whether that's the processor or the graphics card.

You can't set it directly, but you can increase it by reducing the resolution you choose from the FMS menu.

For example, with my ATI Radeon 9600 card, if resolution is set to 1280 x 1024 I get 4 Frames/second. When I reset it to 800 x 600, the image is slightly more 'blocky' but Frames/second goes up to 10. And believe me, at 10 F/S you get a lot more adrenalin pumping than you do at 4 F/S.

If you have any speed/handling problems with a specific model (i.e. it is just too fast to fly) you could alwys try adjusting the parameters in the *.par file.
The software can be downloaded from the R/C experimental aircraft studio site (on the links page I think) or via a link on my own site - www.mike-the-wanderer.co.uk
The software is freeware and not too hard to use.

I would suggest reducing the engine power, control throws and control inertia to 'tame' your plane down... :)
