Hi everyone. I've been following the forum for a few days, meanwhile experimenting with my setup. I hope my 'findings' might point to something.
My platform is MSWinXP/Home.
My old system used an Nvidia card with 64 MB and ran FMS superbly.
My new system has an ATI Radeon 9500/128MB graphics card , and I have experienced very similar problems to others on this forum.
My monitor is an LCD by Samsung and I run it with an optimum resolution of 1280 x 1024. It has 'Pivot' software installed, so can be used in either 'portrait' or 'landscape' modes.
Now, cutting to the chase . . . If I uninstall FMS, reboot, and reinstall it, in landscape mode, it will not run. i.e. black screen until simulation is initialised. Then only background, no model et.c.
If I repeat the exercise with my screen in portrait mode, FMS installs itself in window mode. I can stretch the window to fill the screen width, maintaining it's aspect ratio (because a tall thin world looks naff!) If I attempt to change resolution however everything goes pear-shaped!
Provided I keep it in Window mode, it runs beautifully.
One odd thing, when I select my desktop Joystick (Logitech) the channels FMS installs are scrambled and I have to sort them out manually in the calibrate box. If I select my USB/buddy-box/Txr they are different again, and need re-calibration.
From then on though, it's business as usual. Splendidly realistic flying, particularly so with the buddy box link.
Forgive the extended length of this post - I hope it's useful.
And thanks a bunch for this superb program.
