Snafu- If you are in the USA, you may want to consider using mode 2, as that is what is typicaly used. Most, if not all, radios you buy here are set up mode 2 at the factory, (there is usually a way of switching that later). The other reason to be familiar with mode 2 is if a friend lets you fly their plane, chances are they will be set up that way.
Which ever way you go, the throttle is the one without the spring.
Of course it's up to you. There is no "right way", but it's easier to go with the flow here. Just my opinion.

Sorry I've not replied, I've been away for a few weeks.
Well, I'm in the UK. Not sure what the norm is over here. I dismantled the box to swap the springs around and have now tried both Mode 1 & 2, and guess what I suck at both ??? Thank god for FMS. I reckon it has saved me loads of money in Balsawood so far.
I think the reason for setting it up as I originally had it was in a real plane pitch & roll are usually on a common stick while Yaw is controlled by pedals (So it seemed logical to put rudder on the other stick along with the throttle). Oh well, I'm gonna stick at this theings can only get better.
