Black areas around trees

Postby ThermalQuest » Thu May 09, 2002 6:21 pm

When I run FMS, I get black areas around the trees and some other parts of the scenery. Why is this?

is the black in a square shape or is it just a border to the tree. On the tree textures The area that is black is transparent. if this is add-on sceanery then the maker might have forgot to right in transperent in the text file. i am not sure were to write this in though. :(
i am not realy mad that is just my nickname :)

Yes it is a BIG area around the whole tree, not just an outline. It is square... Maybe somebody could help me out with this...

Thanks in adance...

I used to have this till I upgraded my Video card drivers.

Also try it in full screen mode with a lower resolution and also download the alpha 7.5.1 version and tweak the graphics settings.

I agree it is probably a a Video card problem, I get this if I try to run FMS on my Laptop which only has an 8mb card. It works perfectly on everything else I have tried it on right down to a 12mb Voodoo 2 but it looks like the 8mb card just can't hack it for some reason.

Try to adjust your video card, maybe a 600*800 resolution will do the trick for you
or try to
- change to 16-bit in fms
- run fms in window mode
- remove fog in fms
- turn off other programs that's running
(hit ctrl-alt-delete once to see the programs that is turned on,don't turn of explorer and systray, you'll need them!!!)

After "Playing around" a bit it seems to be tied into the Autozoom function. My main PC run FMS at 1280*1024 res at 60+ FPS and I don't use Autozoom much at all. (Settings 250 - 300m) The Laptop on the other hand runs at a lower resolution and on an LCD screen as well so I use Autozoom to see the model at distance (Default settings). If I turn off Autozoom the black around the trees disappears as well. (But I can't see the model against the sky - Oh well) :(

Try turning it off and see how you get on.

On my Dell windows 2000 pro every thing looks good, at home on my HP windows xp I get the black. This is because the card does not render the transparency on xp.

Sorry for nicely bumping this. but..

I think it's just a graphics card problem.
My PC has a GeForce 6800 & Windows XP, and I get transparency.
My Laptop has onboard SIS651 graphics & Windows XP, and has black instead.

Yes it does have "Transparent"

I think it's just if you don't have a true 3D card like ATI or Nvidia,
My laptop just has a Direct3D/ OpenGL.
