Most peolpe that I know that use these things are into RC or tring to get into it. I learnt how to fly heli.s on this simulator which saved me many hour and many crashers.

I have been flying heli's for fifteen years. I am still using simulators and learning new orientations with FMS. I have learned to do backwards and inverted flight and I am now working on inverted backwards.

I also build and sell PIC seial interfaces for FMS. See my post under PIC serial forum. I have had nothing but very happy people after they have used FMS. I have also met many people doing this so I am very pleased also.

Without these simulators, very few people would get to the flying skills that are present today.

I have a zagi, and a nitro stadium truck.

My zagi got the flap after a dive from high up, so now i'm re-enforcing it with CF spars.

Long-time RC fan here!

Started flying RC gliders back in the late 70s. As a hang glider pilot, I needed something to do while waiting for the slope to become soarable (12-15mph), gliders only needed 2-3 mph. Plus, they made perfect wind dummies to see where the thermals were busting off.

I also fly helicopters (Shuttle ZXXxxxx (many upgrades)) and electric sailplanes. My latest sickness (not my term) is Discus Launch Gliders (DLG). You hold the glider by the wing tip, spin, and then release. Very cool, achieves twice the height of conventional hand launch.

Having made a make a short story long . . . yes, I RC.

I just started to learn to fly heli's--downloaded fms --and as an electronics tech I tried building a parallel interface and also a PIC interface according to FMC. Neither work ---wonder what I'm doing wrong. I checked with a scope and have a sig going into both interfaces but dont recive an ack from FMS that it is getting the signal . Can anyone HELP marti.b @juno.com
:(

Are your radio setup for PPM mode? The interfaces will not work in PCM mode.

Also, the parallel port does not support WinNT, WinXP, but PIC interface is supported.

As you did not give specific details on which PIC interface you have build, it will be difficult the help at this stage.

In the mean time, check your circuit. Is your input & output transistors connected the right way round, and do you have 5V supply across the zener? Did you program the PIC?

Let us know.

:) Have been flying RC for about 15 years including many .049 to .60 size trainer and sport plaines. Also have been doing slope gliders for 4 or 5 years. Am a licensed Private Pilot and had a 1/2 share in a Cessna 175 for 6 years, about 300 hours total. Have found the FMS simulator to be a good training devide to keep skills current as do not have many chances to fly RC at the present time. Had FMS and suitable hardware been available when I began it would have saved many a crashed airplane as I taught myself to fly. It is not perfect, mainly due to the limitations of looking at a small screen, but is very valuable.

I fly rc indoors and also design handlaunch gliders. I love to fly the little WESPE on the fms. I want to design an indoor invirnment, like my living room and fly a microscopic 6 inch span fully aerobatic plane. Imagine doing take offs from the simulated kitchen table and then go inverted between the legs of the sim kitty cat, then up along the kitchen counter, just missing the left on waterfall coming out of the water tap, then around the dining room table3 times and crashlanding in the catbox making the stuff fly out in a hugh explosion! We live in the future and we have the capability to do things like this. Any ideas?:D

I thought I would be a tough guy and bought an Aerobird. Nose dived it on the first flight thus crushing it. NOW I bought a 6 program Futaba and the Pic interface. This way I will get a good feel, with the radio I will be using to fly the real thing, and save some money.

I was looking at the Combatwing for my first (second) plane. They are made of the indestructible foam which should be able to take a good bunch of hits until I skill up a bit.

The FMS was my first time with a Heli and man what a light touch you have to have, far different than the planes.
