Q. on Mapping Tx to plane/Heli - Using Hitec Tx (Mode 1)

Newbie type Q.
Just need clarification, I have set up my Hitec Eclipse 7 Tx (Mode 1) to work with FMS with the following, con someone please confirm if I have set everything correctly? Last thing I want is to be learning on FMS on the wrong controls.

Control type Tx Control FMS

Rudder Left-Side 1
Elevator Left-up/down 2 INV
Aileron Right-Side 3
Throtle Ride-Up/Down 4 INV

Tail Left-Side 1
Nick Left-Up/Down 2 INV
Roll Right-Side 3
Pitch Right-Up/Down 4 INV

Also, a couple other questions,
1. Why are my Elevator & Throttle control Inverted? My Tx is on Factory Default at the moment.
2. Are these settings realistic for control of trainer type planes and Helis? In particular, does Heli only have these 4 channels?
3. What do people actually use to "steer" the plane most of the time? Rudder or Airleons or both at the same time?

I just got an Eclipse 7 and FMS. I ordered a serial cable from Ebay but cant get it to work. checked all COM settings.
I am going to exchange it for parallel.

Which are you using and have you got it to work correctly?

Most people have throttle and rudder on the left stick. Leaving alerons and elevator for the right stick in planes.. So it would then make sense to me that helecopters should be pitch and tail on the left, and nick and pitch on the right. But I have never flow a helecoptor before so I'm not for sure.

I use the alerons for steering most of the time. With a low wing plane the effectiveness of the rudder is pretty small unless you have a huge control surface. On a high wing plane the rudder is VERY effective. On my high wing trainer I could even get the sucker to roll over using just the rudder.

I have used both an Audio interface and an USB interface with good success.

I run Win2K, so is limited by that. The Audio interface is cheap as chips if you can do very basic soldering (buy cable, 2X connector and 1 little resistor only). The USB interface from Ken Howard works a bit better, but costs about AUS$80 (US$40).

In Australia (& I think Europe), *most* people use Mode 1 (Throttle on right stick, elevator on left stick), so I thought I'd better stick with that.
