Tips for cleaning engine - How do you get that ugly brown stain off the engine?

My exhaust came loose during my last flight, and the engine got covered in exhaust juice, which I assume consist mainly of castor oil and other lubricants. The heat caused this liquid to stain the alloy and now I cant get the engine silver again. Dirty engines are something I cant live with. Help!

Not sure what would work.

Have you tried carberator cleaner or get some of the parts cleaner from an automotive store.

I would think this would mean taking the enging off the model and protecting the bearings and gaskets.


I haven't tried this type of thing in a long while so take my suggestions with caution.

I use a product called: ( Mean Green) in my Gunsmith Shop. I tried it on an old Motor I had, and it worked fine.
Need to use a course tooth brush with MG and I also covered the Carb before using product. I did not remove the motor from plane, but of course one could.

One of the best methods is using automotive permanent antifreeze in an old crockpot set at low and the engine or parts immersed overnight. Permanent antifreeze is compounded to use in aluminum auto engines and/or radiators and does not harm the model engines which are also mostly of aluminum alloys.
