What version is newest and the best?

I am using 2.0 Alpha 8.5 but I read people talking about version 2.8 and some of the landscapes and planes I have downloaded say they are for version 2.8 and some of the landscapes do not work on my version. I have looked for something to download that says it is version 2.8. So my question is there a version 2.8 and if so where do I find it and if there is a version 2.8 is that the best one to run. The version you have is the latest and best. The problem seems to be that some people mistakenly refer to V2 Alpha 8.5 as something like V2.8 or V2.8.5 and that causes confusion.

Thanks Steve. It had me confused. I was searching all over trying to find a version 2.8. I wasted a lot of time hunting. I am glad you set me straight on that.
