FMS in Wine

After installing FMS Version 2.0 Beta 7 and dumping d3drm.dll in the same directory in wine I found that it almost worked. My Esky USB controller was recognised and calibrated ok.The plane took off and flew but only the top 20% of the screen was was being animated. The bottom 80% stayed frozen.Any idea what is getting wrong.

I don't know what computer/video card combination you have so this may be a hardware compatibility problem. To find out, remove the FMS 7 and download FMS 8.5 from this site. Do the d3drm.dll thing again and try it. There is a chance that the copy of FMS 7 had a corrupted file.

I got the same results with Alpha 8.5. FMS runs fine in dual boot XP. I have Gigabyte video card nvidia 9400. I have a dual core 3 GigaHertz AMD CPU. The most current Fedora 12 Distro. The top 10%??? moves while all else is frozen. I would really like to stay in Linux but want to Fly FMS a lot also. Has anyone got FMS to run under WINE?

Hi glenton,

You may find someone who can help you to get FMS to run on your system, but I think your chances are pretty slim. There are more issues than you are aware of - the operating system is definitely a challenge, but there has also been a number of problems encountered when using Nvidia graphic interfaces. If you insist on going this rout, good luck!

If you really want to use FMS, try a much easier solution. Find an obsolete computer that runs XP and use it exclusively for the flight simulator. You should be able to find a very cheap one at your local second-hand store, or one of your friends probably has an old one in the basement that they never got around to throwing out (I have several!).
