Version question (dumb n00b here)

OK this is probably a stupid question, but I have seen reference to both so much I need to ask.

Which version should I DL and use with my JR radio using SmartPropoPlus and the trainer cord?

I see the "Recommended" version is 2.0 Beta 7, but it doesnt specify WinXP.

The Alpha 8.5 version does, but its not the "recommended" version..

I'm a n00b to RC and want to learn to fly but Im fairly competant with PC's.. (Im no programmer but I know my way around the keyboard)

Well, you don't need a version that's "recommended", just one that works. Since FMS 2.85 is almost 3 years old by now, there's no point waiting for it to mature any more. In most cases it will work fine, if it doesn't you can still downgrade.

If FMS 2.7 release notes don't even specify XP, that should give you a hint how completely outdated this version is.
