Windows 2000 & Beta 7 - Which interfaces work with Win2000?

Postby johnhlong » Mon Nov 05, 2001 3:44 am

Just so I don't drive everyone crazy by asking questions.

Which interfaces should work with Windows 2000 & the new Beta 7?

Any special setup we need to do?

The only interface that should work is the PIC version. (still building mine)

When you get your interface working can you make one for me?

I have dual boot with Win98 and w2k and, after installing FMS 7 in Win98, I tried to run it from w2k. It ran fine, but all the options in Control/Analog except two were disabled. The two remaining options are: Joystick and PIC-based interfaces.
I feel that TX-to-Joystich interface is a better choice than FMS-specific PIC-based cable: you can use the former with any Windows sim (like RF). The difficulty of manufacturing the two interfaces are pretty much the same: they are both using PICs and have similar count of other components.
A friend of mine is building TX-to-Joystick interface right now (with all the parts on a tiny PCB inside the Joystick connector's hood), I'll get several cables from hime in a couple of weeks.

Ian C,
I'd be willing to buy an interface off of you...

Using win2k as well, and just wondering if the simplest solution wouldn't be to look for the appropriate driver which support the Tx connection on parallel port ???
Instead of building all our own lead...

Hi Fabien,

since under Windows XP a lot of features of other game devices are working again - that havn't been working with NT or W2k - why shouldn't the W98-drivers work.

If someone would tell me how to install them or give me a version of FMS without the blocked serial-ports, I'd be glad to beta-test and report back into this forum

Hi guys,

I know this sounds like an advert, but it's not: I work for a Web Hosting company. :)

I found a very cool USB device from Lew Engineering called RCJoy. It works with just about every PPM transmitter I've seen and makes it appear to the system as a multi-axis joystick/games controller.

Supported operating systems include: Win 98, ME, 2000, XP and even MacOS/9 (if you're that way inclined).

It's probably a little more expensive than building your own interface, but at least you don't need to build and debug it yourself (plus it works with modern notebooks without having to buy a docking station to get a joystick port).

There's lots of information about it on their website, including a freely downloadable Acrobat PDF manual so you can get the low-down. If you're interested, check it out:

Kind regards,
Anthony.

I've downloaded a parallel port analyser on
which seems to be able to capture the ACK signal, even on 2000. But it appears that the address where it looks after the signal is not the FMS one (0378), but where it locates (automatically) the parallel port (03bc), even if I've set 0378 in the BIOS and it appears like that in the Driver properties.

I'll be happy to test any new development as well!!!

Hi Kromega,

There's two parallel port analysers on that page. I've tried both of them and was able to switch ports without a problem.

You need a mouse with ssp20.exe to change the port under test. You do this by clicking on the [ ] checkboxes beside the LPT1, LPT2, LPT3 and LPT4 (what's LPT4 all about?) words across the top. If you are using Windows 2000 and have QuickEdit enabled you will need to run this program full-screen, otherwise the mouse click will try to select text in the window. :)

You can use either the mouse or the keyboard with the other program, parallel.exe. Changes ports by clicking on their names with the mouse (top-right corner) or by pressing F9/F10/F11 on the keyboard.

Kind regards,
Anthony.

Anthony,
I've manage to change the scanned port without pb.
The issue is that the active LPT1 port start at 03bc instead of 0378 as required by FMS (even if set so in BIOS).
So there's no change that FMS recognize the input, even if the computer received it, cause it's not the correct registery...
