Wind effect after initialization - Strange behaviour in 8.5

Postby shaul_eiz » Sat Jun 18, 2005 8:31 am

I moved to 8.5 in order to take advantage of the new 'Wind' feature. However, I found out that the wind turns the model on the runway immediatly after initialization, so I that the model always faces the wind.
Do I miss anything?

Thanks!

the wind make your plane,
act like a weather vain, or a windmill.

you can change wind direction.

if you fly into a 15-20mph wind, your plane should appear to hover.

Hi Scarz,
Exactly. But this is not what happens in reality, right?
I'd like to learn how to take-off and land with cross-wind. How do I do that?

Tx

how much wind are you talking about? i would say "in reality" a 15-20mph wind would tend to turn the plane on the runway.
if you were launching from grass, may not so much, due to the lateral friction. but say like on a paved runway, or some similer smooth surface, i think it would turn the plane.
:p

I use 0.3 m/s in 45 degrees.
It turns the model on the runway before I have the chance to take-off, but it hardly has any affect on it when airborne. This is not what I see in the field.

I can confirm this behavior.
Obviously only models created with a lower FMS level are affected. A Piper wit a "new" .par does not act like this.
Kind regards
Jürgen

Hi Ggunners,
I tried to do as you've suggested.
I used "parconv" to convert the par file from Bata7 to Alpha8.
Now the model would not move at all.:(
What did I miss?

Thanks

After converting the file. You then open it with the Par Editor to complete the editing. ParConv is just a start.

There is a lot more to do, too much to explain without writing a tutorial. Instead, here's a link to the file.

Just right click with the mouse and Save Target As: into the FMS model directory on your computer.

Hi Ggunners,
Works very nicely! Maybe we do need to write a tutorial. Any idea where to start from?

Thank you very much.
