I search for informations on F.M.S.developpement possibilities under LINUX
I think it's very important for the soft future
...and B. GATES is rich enough!!!
Thanks
Good flights to everybody

right.
like he asked here:

i would be very happy, if you could support linux.
if you like the idea in general, please contact me - i could do the porting stuff, if you have no experience in unix programming.

greets, Nik

I would also be very interested in FMS on Linux!

Has anyone tried using the windows version with Wine ? Maybe I'll giove that a go.

Wouldn't we all. But it would just be nice to have it working under winex/cedega, crossover, win4lin or any one of the major windows emulators.

I've tested with cedega and crossover and I can't even get the installer to run.

There is a good OpenGL modelplane simulator called "crrcsim" for Linux (and if you want : also Windows and MacOS).

Slightly less fancy in graphics but flight modeling and plane behaviour is VERY realsitic and IMO better dan FMS.

I used it to learn flying the real things and managed to do so - with help of crrcsim - in about 3 months and without any major crashes by my own mistakes (thusfar ;-)

Try porting to GTK which is really multi-platform. Version 2 also looks good.

I as well would be interested in a crossplatform approach to FMS. Linux / Mac OS X would be great. As I seet it we could seperate the FMS logic, FMS GUI and FMS Rendering into three components. FMS Logic should be written in C/C++ for cross platform compatibility and the FMS GUI could stay in delphi for windows and be written in GTK+ for Linux and Cocoa for OS X. The rendering library could then be plugged in as either direct x or open gl. This would make FMS much more appealing to a wider audience. I would be more than willing to provide assitance and I think community support would be great. Are their any chances of open sourcing portions of fms to allow for this development? IMHO this would only help FMS in the long run, and could ease development efforts for your selves.

Cheers,

Phil
