Hi Mark,
On the Swiss winter slope:
Hand launch and fly straight ahead for 5 to seven seconds watching the vario - when vario indicates lift, count one - two - then start spiralling to the left. If you lose the thermal, come back to your entry point and fly for say three counts, then turn left. This technique experimenting with left and right turns should help you center in the thermal.
Swiss slope:
Hand launch from the slope and turn right after 3-4 seconds and fly up and down parallel to the slope.
You will also find thermals on the runway extension line to the right or left depending on the slope view.
Also find thermals in the view with the high mountain peak with the rounded top more or less diagonally in line from the far left corner of the runway. It helps to have your display showing the Vario reading top left of screen. Stay in touch and I will try to be more specific. Good Luck!
