Windows 2000 - Windows 2000

Postby Ian Schirmer » Mon Mar 26, 2001 5:04 am

I'm wondering if and when there will be an FMS that will run with a transmitter under Win2K. I've had to install dual boot Win98/Win2K to be able to run FMS.

I am thinking about partitioning my hardrive and running Windows 95 in that partition so that I can run FMS (My machine is on Windows 2000) with a transmitter interface. Anyone have a better idea?

The problem is, that it isn't very easy, to develope such a driver, that means, we haven't the tools and knowledge for that. But we have help from some driver specialists, that are working on it, also there isn't a finished working driver for the PPM interface under win2k yet.
With the comming Beta 7 there will be some new serial interfaces, with a PIC (microcontroller), that runs with standart windows routines (needs no time critical drivers). The PIC just analyses the PPM signal, and then sends them as RS232 standart to the serial com port. This PIC interface also works on win2000.

I would like to offer my services as a Windows programmer. I think that I can develop the driver for Windows 2k. I jsut need some source. I promise not to do anything with the code but try to build this driver. Contact me at cody_c_barnes@hotmail.com.

Wil the source code/firmware of the pic (16c/f84?) be available at the time of release of beta 7?

Hi Jack

the documentation on the PIC interface is finished already, and it will be published with the Beta 7.

Hey, what's the deal with FMS beta 7, the graphics look MUCH SICKER than b6, is this just a farce or is it really as sweet as the screenshot appears to be? I'm also looking for the win2k tx driver, PLEASE PLEASE tell me there is a solution in FMS B7!!! When will this sweet baby be available?

Yes, all the loyal FMS fans are eagerly awaiting Beta 7!

Herr Moeller once mentioned that Beta 7 was due in late July... (Probably Quality Assurance department did'n give a green light for the release at thet time.) ;-)

I wonder if Beta 7 will support old-style serial and parallel cables (at least in Windows 9x) and if this support will be improved (software jitter filtering is quite easy to implement).

I only wish other people were given a chance to contribute to this project. I'd be happy to offer my skills in Flight Dynamics (MS in Aerospace Engineering) and software development (Software Engineer in the largest CAD company) to beat RF. ;-)

Any way,
thanks for the good product and for your continuing efforts to make it even better.

I'm using one of the commercial TX to Joystick port adapters, and it works perfectly with FMS and Win2K. The really nice part is that the same interface can control all my other flight sims (except Cockpit Master, which has a bug that they refuse to fix!)

The screenshots are really taken from the internal FMS Beta 7, and it does look nearly that good (on screenshots you show always the best ;-)).

We have tried to finish the Beta 7 already for too long, we know, but now we think we are very close to a releaseable version. If nothing goes wrong (that means we don't discover any new errors) we will publish the Beta 7 within the next month. But please understand, also our time is limited, and there are just some exams ahead in our studies ...

The Beta 7 will still support the old (or just simple ;-) style interfaces, with a new driver (many thank's to Peter Remmers for it!), that has a lot less jitter.

At the moment it's not possible to work open the fms, that people all over the world could work on it. The code is just not designed for that at the moment. Roman and me have got allready problems developing on it at the same time, and we sit both in the same room ...
But we are still optimistic to be able to release an open source version some later day.

Thanks so much for the reply, however would it be possible to get the schematics to make the pic based interface that will work for TX's in WIN2K BEFORE you release b7 so that we can build the interface in preparation? That would be most helpful, even if you emailed it to me. FMS RULES by the way!

If you really want to start building it already, you can get the documentation from:

Hey, THANKS A MILLION. Let me do you a service if I may, I am pretty good with English Grammar, if you want I can re-translate your english instructions so that they are easier to understand. I don't know any German so I can't do a direct translation but if you do the rough one I can refine it for you, email me if you want to talk about it more, d2tw4all@yahoo.com
