New Idea - has it been done

Has there been some one out there that has actuallytaken the idea of a model plane that they want to build and fly programmed it in flown it and then put it to paper built it and been successful and how was it done excuse me if this all sounds stupid but Im a scratch builder, dont like ARFS and would like to test my ideas before building and the FMS would be a great starting point I should think.
