Limited landscape capabilities

I have a post in the landscape addons forum but i think that this is also a general interest problem.
The new version supports a much more limited amound of items placed in a landcape, around 70%.
Does anyone know why was that done and also if there is a way to fix it?
It would be great if the parameters where the same so that all the landscapes from version 7 could work also in Version 8.
