Installing new planes in Beta 7.......

I downloaded some new planes for Beta 7 and the way I am installing them is when I unzip the files, I copy them into the FMS Models folder. The planes do work sometimes but I was just wondering if this was the best way to do it. Thanks in advance.

You've got the procedure that I've always used - successfully most of the time. Some downloaded models will not work regardless of how they were downloaded and installed; they may not have been created properly in Metasequoia, or are missing necessary files, or perhaps for reasons of which I am unaware. A few that I remember were perfect in a sense, except for the fact that they did not have a visual presence: they sounded fine, and seemed to fly normally, they simply were not visible. Most of those went to the trash bin, except for one that GGunners was able to "fix" so that it was then visible.

However, enjoy the hundreds of models available for v7, some of which rival those found in Microsoft Flight Simulator - minus the animation effects of course.

There are some differences between the different FMS versions.

Version 6 models will work correct on Beta 7, but the model is not visible in the Model, Load window. It's easy to correct this. Just load the plane into FMS, do a print screen (Alt PrtScr), and paste the image in any graphic software. Select the picture of the plane, and create a jpg file with 200 x 200 pixels. Rename this file to the same name as the model's par file, with '_prv' added to the file name. If the model is named Plane1.par, then the image file should be named Plane1_prv.jpg.

The new Alpha 8 models will not work with Version 7, and also the Version 7 models will also not work with Alpha 8, as there were major changes made to the PAR files.
