Help for old computer - FMS for older pc?

I enjoy using FMS on my home computer but I travel with an older laptop and trying to run the current version (7.x) on this machine is impossible. FMS installs and configures just fine, but I can watch the Super Cub make little movements about 10 seconds apart as it slowly inches down the runway.

This laptop is a Compaq, Pentium 1 with a 150 mhz processor, 80 mb of ram, running W98. It is okay for most business uses.

Is there a version of FMS, perhaps one of the older versions, that would run on this laptop? I would love to have FMS available when I travel.

I know I should buy a new laptop, but that will have to wait for awhile. This one does fine for now.

The old DOS version is still available on the FMS Homepage/Downloads. I've never tried it myself but I guess it may run on your antique laptop .

I tried the DOS version. Pretty primitive, but it works. It seems that the transmitter has to connect through a parallel port as opposed to my serial port PIC connector. I tried the keyboard option but the keyboard map does not show anything about controlling the aircraft, just throttle.

I assume that you have to use a hand controller of some kind for this program. Does anyone have any experience with this? Do you use LPT1 to connect, and if so, what kind of patch cord would you need?
