Michael Moeller has responded to such a request earlier (search this forum). He said that he and his brother are having hard time synchronizing their versions of FMS, even though their two computers are in the same room.
The challanges of controlling the source code modifications (merging the changes, verifying that no new bugs are introduced, etc.) would grow exponentially with the number of developers involved. Some kind of Concurent Vesioning System (I'm not sure if existing CVS implementations will work with Pascal-based Delphi source files), as well as an automated test suite (to validate the changes) would be required.
From the other hand, the collective expertize of many FMS fans around the world would improve the product greately. BTW, even now, many people contribute to FMS--the new PIC-based cable was developed by Russian fellows at RC-Design.
